Quit a Little Early and See Some New Orleans
7/17/2008

The day started as usual with a wonderful breakfast prepared by Roxie and Carol then off to finish mold remediation and dry wall sanding. Thank goodness it was a cool day, 87 degrees at 10:30 a.m. The "mold" team jumped into the attic like monkeys and were done by 10:00. The sanders finished at 12:00. Back to the Mission Station for a wonderful lunch and off for a fun afternoon.

Each morning on the way to work we pass pick up trucks full of big oblong watermelons just like they use to be in Indiana in the old days. Well, when you bite into a slice the juice runs down your arm and out your mouth and drips on the floor. We wish you were here to taste them!!!!!!!

Two of us tasted crawfish for the first time. We all are experiencing new and different things. Meanwhile back to mold. . . . . .

We are happy to report that the house we have been working on is totally remediated and we are moving on to a new job tomorrow.

The "mudders" will stay at their home and sand some more.

We stopped by a home that Beth Robert’s father had helped re-build in 2006 and heard stories of how people are still helping people try to get back to their way of life prior to Katrina. It was nice to hear how appreciative people are for everyone that volunteers.

The afternoon was filled with shopping and sight seeing in the French Quarter. The youth were very impressed with the St. Louis Cathedral. There was also a tour of the devastation still visible after all this time. There are still many homes left with a BIG RED X that came after the storm when FEMA inspectors determined the number of lives lost. It is very sad :( .

I've read quite a few blogs thru the years, but this string has been one of the best. A good mixture of sights, sounds, smells and stories make for interesting reading. Thanks to the "blog team."

See you all Saturday night.
