The hard work continued today with much enthusiasm. Every day begins with devotions before going to our work sites. We agreed that if an individual was asked how he/she is doing the answer would be "OUTSTANDING". The group truly did maintain outstanding attitudes and efforts today throughout the mudding and mold remediation process. At Robin’s house, where the mold remediation is taking place, many of our youth spent a large part of today in the attic painting Kilz on the inside of the roof. On a day where the temperature reached 106, you can imagine how unbearable the attic space must have been! Our youth never once complained, and are often the last ones to stop work before taking a break. Other youth and adults painted Kilz on every piece of wood in the framework of the house or did yard work.
Our Avon mission workers at Robin’s house were blessed to see God at work through many people today. Three workers (from Honduras, Nicaragua, and Venezuela) were mowing yards in the neighborhood. They voluntarily mowed Robin’s house, since we were volunteers giving our time to help. When we offered them money, they refused to take anything. People helping people! A neighbor also came by today with Power drinks for us. She was told that we brought plenty with us, but she said to take the refreshments. She knew we were volunteers and also knew how much work goes into restoring a house. She had cleaned her own home a couple of years ago. Another neighbor had a nice conversation with some of our team, kindly offered us water, and thanked us for our work. The people of New Orleans are so appreciative for our help and the sincerity of our efforts. The families that we are assisting this week are just like the families of Avon Christian. They want the best for their families and were working hard to support themselves when Katrina hit and changed their lives.
