New Orleans Mission Trip
7/7/2008

On July 13th the ACC mission team will travel to the Metairie mission station, housed in the First Christian Church in Metairie, LA. (west New Orleans). During the work trip, the team will be partnered with the St. Bernard Project (SBP), a non-faith based organization that has built 130 homes with 5,000 volunteers over the last 1 1/2 years. This program has made a tremendous impact on the St. Bernard Parish which, along with the Lower 9th Ward, was heavily damaged by floods due to breached levees. The SBP also utilizes AmeriCorps workers who are trained as site managers for each build site which allows volunteer teams to have someone on site who will work with them on the various jobs. Previous mission teams affiliated with the Metairie mission station and working with the St. Bernard Project have indicated it was a very positive experience. Since there is so much work to do in this parish and SBP is one of the primary builders in the area, the work is well organized and teams are kept busy.

The team will be posting daily blog entries about the activities along with pictures.  Check out the daily posts and feel free to respond to the entries by posting your own comments.
