And that makes it all worth it

Today mostly consisted of "painting". It’s really a mold killer that’s applied like paint, but it’s essentially painting. Being one of the younger group of people here, I was up in the attic all day. This attic has one small window on one end and a metal ventilation chimney-like thing in the middle of the roof. I don’t think I’ve sweat as much today as I have in my entire life, and I’ve been to New Orleans before! (Not to mention four years of marching band) Lunch today was different, as those of us at the house where the mold remediation is taking place went out and had po-boys for lunch. For those of you who don’t know, po-boys are large sandwiches with a lot of food on them. They were very good, but most of us couldn’t finish the whole thing. Another highlight of the day was at the end of the work day. We stopped about an hour early to go over to Westside Christian Church, where we worked last year, and see Brother Vance.

We took the ferry across the river to get there and that was a lot of fun. When we got there, we found that things were much improved from when we were there a year ago. The parking lot was paved, there’s a fence up, and the giant mud puddle that was the front yards of the mission center and Vance’s house has grass growing! We were so impressed with how far the church had come. It was also great seeing Vance again, who can’t wait till we come back to Westside next year. Tonight, folks from First Christian Church of Metairie, where we are staying, are making us dinner. Then tomorrow, we are taking a half day of work and going into the city for some site seeing. All in all, things are going wonderfully here, and amazing things are happening. In a place where so much help is needed, and it’s sometimes hard to find God, we get to see him every day. And that makes it all worth it.

Nice post Phil. It sounds like you not only got the hardest detail but the hardest job on the detail. Just remember the folks doing the drywall would not be able to do their jobs without the completion of yours Smile

Love hearing directly from the youth. Great job to the missionaries of ACC. Can't wait to hear from everyone about the journey. Safe work and travels.

Sounds like hard work. Wish I could be there to help but I sweat enough in Indiana wheather Smile Wish I could be there with my minister wife and you all. Sounds like quite the experience. Haven't had a po' boy in a long time...that would have been nice...after working really hard of courseSmile Would like to go with you on that trip to the city as well. I haven't been to New Orleans since I was there on tour during Mardi Gras. But that was a LONG time agoSmileCan't wait to hear in detail about the adventure.
